ORAL MANIFESTATIONS OF GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES
Gastrointestinal problems* can manifest themselves through significant oral symptoms; among the most common are: tooth erosion, halitosis, ulcers and dry mouth.
Changes in pH and in the amount of saliva produced, which are common in these individuals, impair the ability to neutralise acid attacks, thereby increasing the risk of erosive damage.
Many patients are unaware of the link between oral symptoms and gastrointestinal disorders, particularly as they do not exhibit the classic signs of reflux. For this reason, prevention and regular monitoring of oral health are essential for the early detection of signs of erosion and for preserving the integrity of dental and soft tissues.
